Mathematics Undergraduate Research Award (MURA)

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or international students on a study permit who are registered in a bachelor's degree program in the University of Waterloo Faculty of Mathematics, have a cumulative average of 80% or higher, have completed at least the first year (or two academic terms) of study, have not finished all degree requirements, have not started graduate studies in mathematics, and have secured a Faculty of Mathematics research supervisor for an NSERC-mandate project may apply.

The award is valued at $6,000 per academic term. Supervisors must supplement by at least $5,000 from other sources (commencing Spring 2026). Students may hold one MURA per fiscal year and up to three over their undergraduate career, and may not hold both USRA and MURA in the same term.

Applications go to the student's home department on the prescribed form with supervisor approval. Deadlines vary by term; contact the department undergraduate coordinator for earlier internal dates.
