At the deadline, you must be enrolled full-time in a Master's program at an eligible Canadian institution, or have applied for full-time admission with a start date no later than September 30, 2026. You also need an identified research supervisor at an eligible Canadian institution where the work will be done. Partial awards for less than one year of funding are not available.

Heart & Stroke and Brain Canada are committing up to $270,000 for the 2026 Master's Personnel Awards for Indigenous Scholars. Individual awards are $27,000. The goal is to increase highly qualified Indigenous trainees across Canada working in heart and/or brain research.

The award was shaped through co-creation with Indigenous leaders at all career stages. See Heart & Stroke and Brain Canada guidelines for application details.
