About this scholarship

Open to outstanding domestic students entering UBC Okanagan directly from secondary school or transferring from another post-secondary institution who demonstrate financial need and would not be able to attend without assistance.

Renewable entrance awards; amounts vary. Subject to continued good academic standing, awards renew for up to three additional years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained, whichever comes first.

No separate student application. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award Committee.

The endowment was established by the estate of Mary Joan Mitchell (1930-2021). After attending the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Toronto, Joan (B.A., B.Lib.) joined the British Columbia Legislative Library in Victoria, where she eventually retired as Branch Head in 1985.
