About this scholarship
Dependent children, stepchildren, or legally adopted children of active-duty, retired, or deceased Army Soldiers (including qualifying Reserve or Guard on Title 10 orders for the full academic year) pursuing a first undergraduate degree may apply for Army Emergency Relief's need-based Maj. Gen. James Ursano Scholarship. Award amounts vary annually based on need and available funding. Recipients reapply each year for up to four years.
Applicants must be under age 24 with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Apply January 1 through April 1. The program honors Maj. Gen. James Ursano, who directed Army Emergency Relief for a decade after 33 years of Army service.

- 2026-2027 FAFSA Submission Summary (formerly SAR) - need is determined by Student Aid Index (SAI)
- Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) if Soldier sponsor is on active duty
- Federal Title 10 Orders if sponsor is on Title 10 Active Guard/Reserve orders
- DD214 if Soldier sponsor is retired
- Casualty Report if Soldier died while on active duty
- Eligibility: dependent child of active/retired/deceased Soldier, registered in DEERS, under age 24, unmarried, cumulative 2.0 GPA, full-time enrollment, no prior bachelor's degree
- Recipients must reapply annually and may receive support for up to four years.
