About this scholarship

Legally blind high school seniors from across the United States with strong academic records may apply for Lighthouse Guild's merit-based college scholarships.

The program awards up to ten $10,000 college scholarships annually, plus one to three graduate scholarships of up to $10,000 each. Awards are unrestricted and may cover tuition, room and board, books, and travel.

Apply online at lighthouseguild.org/scholarships. Lighthouse Guild supports academically qualified students with vision loss making the transition to college and graduate education.

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency
  • School transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation, at least two addressing academic skills
  • Personal statement of 500 words or fewer
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least two must address academic skills); each must include the name, address, and telephone number of the reference writer
  • Proof of legal blindness (verification from a state rehabilitation agency, ophthalmologist, or optometrist)
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency
  • School transcripts
  • College must be accredited by a body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation
