LA&PS Dissertation Fieldwork Fellowship
Direct application
Eligibility
About this scholarship
Doctoral students in a LA&PS-based graduate program at York University entering year 3 or 4 may apply when fieldwork or other dissertation research makes holding a teaching assistant (TA) position impossible for the academic year. Fieldwork may be abroad or in Canada. Applicants must have completed coursework, passed qualifying exams, and submitted their dissertation proposal to FGS (and ethics review if required). Fieldwork must occur by year 4. Students holding a large scholarship designed to fund fieldwork are not eligible, and applicants cannot hold a TA and the Fellowship in the same year.
Up to 20 fellowships are available each year. Amounts equal a 1.0 TA-ship and replace portions of the graduate funding package. Funds are paid in Fall, Winter, and Summer instalments.
Apply online with a two-page research statement (why the work cannot be done on site at York, plus timeline and location), proposal and FGS/ethics approvals, and two statements of support. No funds are deposited until FGS approvals are received.
