About this scholarship

Massachusetts residents ages 17 to 22 who are dependents of a worker killed or seriously injured in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease with a Massachusetts employer, demonstrate financial need, and are accepted or enrolled at a college, university, or technical school may apply for Kids' Chance of Massachusetts scholarships. Full-time students are preferred; part-time students may be considered as funds allow.

Award amounts vary based on need and available funding. Students may reapply each year they remain eligible. Submit the initial or renewal application by the deadline.

  • FAFSA Student Aid Report including Student Aid Index for two- or four-year college/university students
  • Deceased parent's death certificate or proof of compensable injury/illness claim
  • Completed Kids' Chance Scholarship Application (student, family, and institution contact information)
  • For 2-year or 4-year college/university students: copy of Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA, including Student Aid Index (SAI)
  • Either a copy of the deceased parent's death certificate OR proof of a compensable injury/illness claim (e.g., state workers' compensation board determination letter)
  • Letters of recommendation (optional)
  • Letters of recommendation are optional.
  • Applicant may submit an initial or renewal application each year they remain eligible.
  • Application includes a brief statement of education and career goals and how the scholarship will help achieve them.
