About this scholarship

Kentucky residents admitted to an approved prelicensure or graduate nursing program may apply for the Nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund administered by the Kentucky Board of Nursing. Applicants must not be in default on a prior award or listed on the Nurse Aide Abuse Registry with a substantiated finding.

The fund provides $3,000 per year ($1,500 per semester) for tuition, books, and living expenses. Recipients may reapply annually. Each academic year funded requires one year of full-time nursing employment in Kentucky after graduation.

Apply through the KBN Nurse Portal between January 1 and May 1 with transcripts and requested documents.

  • FAFSA Submission Summary showing Student Aid Index (SAI) - OPTIONAL but strongly recommended (used to score financial need)
  • Eligibility: Kentucky resident enrolled in an approved LPN, ADN, BSN, BSN-completion, or graduate nursing program; complete min credit hours (12/yr prelicensure & BSN, 9/yr graduate) and maintain GPA
  • Post-graduation work obligation: work full-time as a nurse in Kentucky for one year per academic year funded (or repay with interest)
  • Application period Jan 1 - May 1 yearly; materials received after May 1 not accepted
  • FAFSA Submission Summary is optional but strongly recommended and is used to score financial need.
  • Each academic year funded creates a one-year full-time nursing-employment obligation in Kentucky after graduation; otherwise repayment with interest is required.
