Katherine Brearley Scholarship in French

Open to outstanding UBC Vancouver undergraduate students enrolled in the major or honours program in French.

Up to five scholarships are awarded each year from funds totalling $8,950, endowed by friends and family in memory of Associate Professor Emerita Katherine Brearley. The per-recipient amount varies with endowment income. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies. There is no separate student application.

Katherine Brearley studied at UBC in the 1930s, earned a doctorate in Paris, and returned as a faculty member for 30 years. She also served as Assistant Dean of Women and the first Senior Faculty Advisor in the Faculty of Arts.
