About this scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate students in the South Florida and Treasure Coast region who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, hold at least a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and are committed to environmental education and Everglades conservation may apply for the Karen Mashburn Environmental Scholars Program.
One recipient receives a $10,000 scholarship plus a 14-week fall internship at Friends of the Everglades supporting the Young Friends of the Everglades program.
The internship requires in-person work at the Stuart, Florida office for 15 hours per week and completion of a capstone project.
Karen Mashburn was a long-tenured Friends of the Everglades board member who helped establish the Young Friends of the Everglades youth education program.

- Ability to pass a Level Two background check
- Recipient must be able to pass a Level Two background check.
