Graduating high school seniors who won their state Journalist of the Year competition and whose adviser is a current JEA member may apply for national judging. Applicants must have participated in high school journalism for at least two years. A journalism major is not required.
One top winner receives $4,000 and up to five finalists receive $1,200 each. Scholarship funds are sent to the recipient's college or university account.
Submit a digital portfolio plus recommendation letters from people who can speak to the significance of your journalism experience. State-level deadlines are typically earlier than the national March deadline.
