Josef Svoboda Graduate Fellowship in Biology

Full-time UTM-affiliated Biology PhD students who have completed their appraisal or transfer exam, are supervised or co-supervised by UTM Biology faculty, and demonstrate outstanding research excellence plus extracurricular leadership that enhances community life at UTM may apply. Preference goes to students studying ecology.

The award amount varies and is granted annually. Submit one PDF package by May 1, 2026 with a 1-page summary letter, CV, and two recommendation letters. The same package is considered jointly for the Roberta Bondar Graduate Student Excellence Award; submit only one package.

Named for Dr. Josef Svoboda, an Arctic tundra scientist and botanist appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his research and mentorship.
