About this scholarship
University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences first-year students with a minimum 3.4 GPA after the fall term are invited in spring to apply for the Jonathan Baldwin Turner Scholars program.
Selected students join a cohort of about 30 scholars and receive renewable awards of $2,500 per year with sustained GPA and participation in professional development activities.
Invited applicants participate in interviews with ACES faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.
The JBT program is a merit-based scholarship supporting ACES students who demonstrate leadership, community service, and commitment to the land-grant mission.

- Responses about major choice, professional plans, leadership, teamwork, and JBT Scholars participation.
- List of up to five fall-semester clubs and activities.
- List of community-service projects.
- List the top five clubs and activities you participated in this fall semester, starting with the most influential (5 short-text entries, not an essay)
- List any community service projects you have been a part of in high school or college (up to 5 short-text entries, not an essay)
- Upload a copy of your resume
- Maintain 3.4+ cumulative GPA over three years
- Commitment to an ACES (Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences) field and the land-grant mission
- Online application closes each year on Martin Luther King Day
- Students are invited in spring after attaining a 3.4 GPA following the fall term.
- Recipients must sustain the required GPA and participate in professional development activities for renewal.
- Invited applicants participate in interviews with ACES faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.
