About this scholarship

One or more Canadian citizens or permanent residents enrolled in a Master of Applied Science or PhD program in the UBC Faculty of Applied Science, or the Master of Applied Science in Engineering Physics in the Faculty of Science, may be considered. Candidates must have achieved a first-class average or better in the most recent two years of full-time study. Students on both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses are eligible.

The award amount varies. Preference goes to research that helps create and maintain a healthy environment, including clean and renewable energy, electrification, greenhouse gas reduction, or energy efficiency. Fellowships may be renewed at the Dean's discretion for up to two additional years (PhD) or six additional months (Master's) for students in good standing. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.

The endowment was established by Dorothy Tiedje in memory of John Tiedje (BASc 1944, MASc 1945), a UBC Chemical Engineering graduate who had a long career with Imperial Oil.
