About this scholarship

Open to outstanding international students entering the Ph.D. in Economics program at the UBC Vancouver School of Economics.

Fellowships totalling $38,000 are made available through an endowment established by Dominic Barton (B.A. 1984, M.Phil., LL.D. 2012) in honour of his parents, John and Barbara Barton. Individual fellowship values vary. Conditional on continued satisfactory academic progress, the award may be renewed for an additional year of study.

Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the Vancouver School of Economics in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.

John Barton served in Anglican ministry in Uganda and British Columbia; Barbara trained as a nurse in Montreal and worked as a nurse in Chilliwack and Oakville.
