About this scholarship
Open to undergraduate students currently registered in a degree program at Concordia University. Two awards of $500 each recognize excellence in poetry and fiction.
Submit original, unpublished work: a poetry portfolio of up to five pages (one or more poems) or a fiction portfolio of a single story up to 5,000 words. The poetry prize goes to the best single poem; the fiction prize to the best single story.
The Department of English established the Irving Layton Awards in 1988 to honour poet Irving Layton, a longtime Concordia teacher, writer-in-residence, and Adjunct Professor of English. See the Department of English website for deadlines and submission details.
