About this scholarship
Women worldwide pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. in journalism, creative writing, or literature at a recognized post-secondary institution may apply for the Irene Adler Prize.
One award of $1,000 is given annually, plus up to two $250 honorable mentions.
Submit a 500-word English essay on one of five provided prompts and proof of enrollment before prize payment. Entry is free. The application window runs January 30 through May 30.
The prize honors Irene Adler and supports women writers pursuing literary and journalistic careers.

- One original English essay, maximum 500 words, submitted as a Microsoft Word attachment
- Choose ONE of the five essay prompts (single entry per person)
- Essay must be 500 words maximum, written in English
- Each essay must have its own original title
- Applicant's name, mailing address, phone number, and email must appear on the first page
- Submit essay and completed entry form as two separate Microsoft Word (.doc) attachments
- Email submission to ireneadlerprize@gmail.com; subject line includes essay title and "(Irene Adler Prize application)"
- Open to women pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. in journalism, creative writing, or literature during 2026-27; open worldwide; no age restriction; free to enter
- Entries that are plagiarized or AI-generated (in whole or part) are disqualified
- 2026 competition runs Jan 30 – May 30, 2026
