About this scholarship

Open to a student admitted to a full-time PhD Engineering program at the University of Windsor in the Summer or Fall terms who self-identifies as Black or Indigenous (First Nations Status or Non-Status, Métis, or Inuit as defined in the Canadian Constitution Act 1982). Students transferring from an incomplete Master's to a PhD may also be considered. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Persons, meet PhD Engineering admission requirements with a minimum cumulative average of 80%, and describe research interest and involvement.

The fellowship provides $30,000 per year ($10,000 per term) for four years (12 terms) while the student remains full-time and in good standing. Mentorship and community support are part of the program. See the Faculty of Engineering IBET page for eligibility and application details.

The IBET Momentum Fellowship is the flagship award of the IBET PhD Project, intended to support Indigenous and Black researchers in academia at the University of Windsor.
