About this scholarship
Outstanding graduate students at UBC Vancouver focusing on classical studies of the Greek and Roman world are eligible for these travel scholarships, which assist with the study of archaeological sites and museums. Scholarships totalling $7,250 are awarded. There is no student application; awards are made on the recommendation of the Department of Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The scholarships were established through an endowment by Mrs. Doris Baldwin (1908-1998) in honour of her brother Dr. Homer Armstrong Thompson (1906-2000), a UBC alumnus and renowned archaeologist who participated in the excavation of the agora of Athens and received the Archaeological Institute of America's Gold Medal for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement in 1972.
