About this scholarship

Students entering the third year of an LCME-accredited U.S. medical school who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients may be nominated by their medical school dean for the AAMC Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarship. Each school may submit one nomination per year. Students in combined degree programs such as MD/PhD are eligible when entering their third year of medical school.

Five recipients each receive $5,000. Nominees should have demonstrated leadership in eliminating inequities in medical education and health care and in addressing the needs of racial and ethnic minorities.

Nomination packets require a dean letter, personal statement, and documentation of leadership addressing underserved populations.
