About this scholarship
Incoming or returning McMaster graduate students (master's or PhD) who self-identify as First Nation, Inuit, or Métis may apply for this award recognizing academic achievement and community leadership.
A total of $30,000 is available each year, typically split among several recipients. The award is tenable for one academic year beginning in September. Recipients may hold it more than once but must re-apply each year.
Apply through Slate with Indigenous ancestry verification, a CV, community involvement materials, a plan of study, candidate statements, and one academic and one community reference letter.
The scholarship was established in 2009 in honour of Harvey E. Longboat and his contributions to McMaster University, the Six Nations of the Grand River, and broader communities.
