About this scholarship

Outstanding graduate students in Economics at UBC Vancouver may be considered for this scholarship, with preference for students interested in labour economics.

Scholarships totalling $5,000 are funded annually through a gift from the HARIVAD Foundation established by Harnam Hari A.N. Singh (B.Sc. 1966); individual award amounts vary.

Recipients are recommended by the Vancouver School of Economics in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.

Harnam Hari A.N. Singh immigrated to Canada from Trinidad and Tobago in 1959. Difficult work conditions while attending university drove him to a lifelong involvement in the labour movement. After completing his studies, he established the HARIVAD Foundation to support spiritual expression, intellectual development, physical wellness, and mental health.
