About this scholarship

Students in the Faculty of Arts at UBC Vancouver whose studies examine the significant contributions of Chinese immigrants to British Columbia may be considered for this award.

Scholarships totalling $1,300 are made available through an endowment established by Mr. Hanson Lau. There is no separate application; the award is made on the recommendation of the Asian Canadian Asian Migration Program in consultation with the Department of History, and for graduate students in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Hanson Lau immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1966, earned a B.A. in English Literature and a Diploma in Education at UBC, and built a decades-long career in Cantonese radio broadcasting and community service in Vancouver.
