About this scholarship

Outstanding medical residents in the Department of Surgery at the University of British Columbia's Vancouver campus who have shown leadership and an interest in surgical oncology are eligible for this award. Awards totalling $5,500 are made available annually. There is no student application; recipients are chosen on the recommendation of the Department of Surgery.

The award honours Dr. Gwyneth J. Sandy, a past president of the BC and Yukon Division of the Canadian Cancer Society, and Dr. John Trevor Sandy, a Vancouver General Hospital surgeon who trained and mentored generations of UBC medical students before retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1994.
