About this scholarship

Houston-area high school seniors in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, or Waller counties with minimum SAT 1000 or ACT 21 who are U.S. citizens may apply for the George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation Scholarship.

Seventy recipients each receive $6,250 per year. Recipients may select any major at any accredited four-year U.S. college or university. Financial need is considered.

Apply online after taking the SAT or ACT. The foundation awards scholarships each spring to support Houston-area seniors pursuing undergraduate study nationwide.

  • Scholarship Application Form (form fields: name, address, family/parent info, siblings, high school, class rank, SAT/ACT scores, achievements/activities list, 1st & 2nd college choices, intended caree
  • Financial Qualification Statement (3-page form: student income/assets, parents' confidential income/assets statement, divorced/separated-parent section, explanations of unusual circumstances)
  • Complete, legible, signed copies of most recent U.S. tax returns (parents/guardians, student if filed, and non-resident biological parent)
  • Proof of SAT and/or ACT results (minimum SAT 1000 Math+Critical Reading combined, or ACT composite 21; scores from same test date)
  • High school transcript (unofficial acceptable)
  • Eligibility: U.S. citizen (Permanent Residents ineligible), high school senior attending/homeschooled in one of eight Texas counties (Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgom
  • Finalists are selected from applications and invited for a personal interview
