About this scholarship
UBC graduate students and UBC medical residents studying in the broad area of health who want to pursue 6 to 12 months of scholarly work outside Western Canada may apply. Travel must be outside British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, and should offer a transformative new experience or collaboration.
Awards of up to $50,000 each are granted for 6 to 12 months of study, with the amount at the discretion of the adjudication committee. Recipients are designated Friedman Scholars.
Applicants submit an online application with an outline of the educational opportunity, a budget, a synopsis of their education, and two letters of support, one from their UBC supervisor and one from the host supervisor.
The award honors Drs. Sydney Friedman and Constance Livingstone-Friedman, two of the earliest faculty members in UBC's Faculty of Medicine.
