About this scholarship
Spouses of any age and children ages 4 through under 26 of U.S. military members or federal employees who died from hostile action or a combat-related accident may apply for college or trade-school scholarships from the Folded Flag Foundation.
Awards are capped at up to $7,500 per academic year for fall and spring terms, and up to $5,000 for summer activities or summer school. Funding covers tuition, fees, books, computers, living expenses, tutoring, test preparation, and career preparation costs.
Applications open April 1. Submit fall and spring applications by May 1. Summer applications are due by mid-April.

- Birth, adoption, or marriage certificate proving kinship
- Enrollment verification or class schedule and photo ID
- Tuition letter and educational cost estimates or invoices
- Eligibility: spouse (any age) or child (ages 4-25) of a U.S. military member or DoD/government civilian who died from hostile action or a combat-related accident
- Proof of eligibility: death certificate or DD1300 casualty report; DD214 showing overseas service; birth/adoption/marriage certificate proving kinship; for post-secondary students a VA Chapter 33 or C
- Proof of enrollment: class schedule or enrollment verification plus photo ID
- Proof of need: tuition letter from school and cost estimates/invoices for educational services
- Optional: a short personal statement about what the scholarship means to you, and up to 3 photographs
- A personal statement and up to three photographs are optional.
