About this scholarship

Teens in grades 7 through 12 (ages 13 and up) in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada, or on U.S. military bases may enter original work in 29 categories of art and writing through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Regional Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention winners advance toward national judging. National Medalists are eligible for scholarships of up to $12,500, including portfolio scholarships for high school seniors submitting six works and special-category awards such as the Herblock Award and New York Life Award.

Create an account in the Scholastic Awards portal, upload digital images or writing files in the appropriate category, and pay the entry fee ($10 per individual entry or $30 per portfolio) or select a fee waiver if cost is a barrier. Deadlines are set by regional affiliates and typically fall during the fall submission season.

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation's longest-running recognition program for creative teens.
