About this scholarship
Artists age 25 or older who have lived in New York State or an in-state Tribal Nation for at least the prior two consecutive years may apply for the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship.
Fellows receive an $8,000 unrestricted cash grant to support their artistic vision. Three finalists in each offered discipline category also receive $1,000 unrestricted grants. Disciplines rotate across a three-year cycle with five categories open per year.
Apply online through NYFA's Submittable portal with work samples, an artist statement, and discipline-specific materials. Applicants must not be enrolled in a degree-seeking program and must be originators of the work rather than interpretive performers.
NYFA has administered the fellowship with leadership support from the New York State Council on the Arts since 1985.
