About this scholarship

High school seniors and current undergraduates who are federal civilian or postal employees with at least three years of service, or their dependents or spouses (including certain union-affiliated connections listed on the FEEA site), may apply for merit scholarships up to $5,000. More than 200 awards are granted annually, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for tuition and fees.

Submit transcripts, a 500-word career-goals essay, community service and activity lists, and sponsor SF-50 documentation through the online portal by March 12.

The Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund supports federal families pursuing higher education; awards are non-renewable but past winners may reapply.

  • Provide a bulleted list of your most important other (non-community service) extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, work, internships, family responsibilities) over the last 5 years
  • Include a description of any significant awards received in the last 5 years in bulleted format with dates and description
  • Eligibility: full/part-time permanent civilian federal or postal employees, or their children/legal dependents (plus NARFE members in some cases)
  • Application submitted via SmarterSelect; deadline Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 3:00pm EDT
  • 500-word career-goals essay about positive and negative effects of AI in the applicant's chosen field.
  • List of community-service activities from the last five years.
  • List of extracurricular activities, employment, internships, or family responsibilities from the last five years.
  • Description of significant awards received in the last five years.
