Explore America Travel Scholarship

U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or DACA-eligible applicants aged 18 to 30 who demonstrate financial need may apply. HI USA awards 31 Explore America Travel Scholarships, including 30 general awards and one reserved for a current or former Girl Scout. Each scholarship includes a $1,500 travel stipend, 4 to 7 free overnights at select HI USA hostels, pre-travel workshops, planning assistance, and a one-year HI USA membership.

Applicants should show a genuine interest in exploring a destination city's culture and make a compelling case as novice travelers. Complete the online application on HI USA's website. Selected awardees complete pre-travel requirements before beginning travel, which must be finished within one year of the award.
