About this scholarship
Outstanding singers enrolled in the Opera Division at the UBC Vancouver School of Music may be nominated.
Awards are drawn from a $25,000 endowment through the Paul and Edwina Heller Memorial Fund in memory of Edwina Heller. Per-recipient amounts are not fixed. Recipients are chosen on the recommendation of the Director of the Opera Program; for graduate students, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is consulted. There is no separate student application.
Edwina Heller trained at the Warsaw Conservatory of Music and performed on CBC broadcasts and with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She taught piano at UBC from 1960 to 1964, and she and her husband Paul were longtime supporters of the arts in Vancouver.
