About this scholarship
Graduates of Delaware public high schools majoring in education with at least a 3.0 GPA may apply for the Christopher K. Smith Memorial Future Teacher Scholarship from the Delaware State Education Association.
One recipient receives $1,000 per year for up to four years. Graduates are encouraged, but not required, to teach in Delaware public schools.
Submit the DSEA application with two letters of recommendation from teachers addressing leadership potential, personal character, and initiative. The selection committee also considers academic performance, high school activities, and career plans.

- Letters of reference from TWO TEACHERS indicating the capacity in which this person has known you, your activities and leadership record in high school, as well as your personal traits, character, and
- A transcript of your high school record (highlighting honors classes) including: class rank, SAT scores, and grade point average; please include a profile of the grading system
- List of school/community activities participated in during the past four (4) years including awards, honors, and leadership roles
- Open to public school seniors who intend to pursue a career in teaching
- Must major in education and maintain a 3.0 GPA
- Top five finalists are invited to an interview and to complete an on-site essay with a 30-minute time limit in late February at DSEA Headquarters in Dover (finalist stage only; no word limit specified
