About this scholarship

Tennessee graduating high school seniors may apply for the Don't Drive Drowsy Foundation (Kyle W. Kiihnl Memorial Foundation) scholarship. Finalists must be available for an interview.

One $2,000 award is granted. The scholarship may be used at a college or trade school of the recipient's choice within two years of the award.

Applicants submit a cover letter, a minimum 400-word essay on one of the posted drowsy-driving topics, a letter of recommendation, a list of high school activities, and a college or trade school acceptance letter (or upon receipt). The essay is the primary selection factor.

The foundation's mission is to educate teens on the dangers of driving while sleep-impaired and the benefits of consistent sleep.
