About this scholarship
Black scholars of African or Caribbean heritage or ancestry in Canada who self-identify as Black and are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons may apply. Applicants must be enrolled in, admitted to, or reclassifying into a full-time doctoral program at an eligible Canadian institution, with research in heart and/or brain health.
Up to four awards provide funding of up to $40,000 per year for up to three years. Partial awards of less than one year are not available.
Heart & Stroke and Brain Canada established this award to increase the number of highly qualified Black trainees committed to cardiovascular and neuroscience research.
