About this scholarship

U.S. college students with ADA-defined disabilities enrolled full-time (or part-time if due to disability) at an accredited two- or four-year institution may enter the disABLEDperson National Scholarship essay competition.

One winner receives $2,000. Write an essay of up to 1,000 words on the prompt published on the disABLEDperson website. Submit proof of disability and matriculation from your institution's Disability Student Services department.

disABLEDperson, Inc. is a nonprofit whose mission is to reduce unemployment among individuals with disabilities.

  • Maximum 1000 words; essays exceeding this limit will be disqualified
  • Essay must be pasted into the registration form on disabledperson.com
  • Correct spelling and grammar required; submit carefully edited drafts only
  • Enrolled full-time in an accredited 2-year or 4-year U.S. college/university (part-time accepted only if reduced enrollment is disability-related, minimum 6 credits)
  • Must be a matriculated student
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have a documented disability under ADA standards (verified through Disability Student Services upon winning)
  • High school students are ineligible
  • Award amount: $2,000
  • High school students are ineligible.
  • Part-time enrollment must be at least six credits when accepted because of disability.
