About this scholarship
Any student enrolled full-time or part-time in an occupational health and safety related course or program leading to a certificate, diploma, or degree at an accredited Canadian college or university may apply. Eligible programs include mine safety, occupational or industrial health and safety, industrial hygiene, and safety management. Students do not have to be Canadian, but must be enrolled at a Canadian school.
Two awards of $3,000 each are granted annually, one to a college student and one to a university student, and each winner's school receives $500. Applications are accepted from October 1 to January 31 each year; previous Dick Martin and Chad Bradley winners may not reapply.
Applicants submit a 1,000 to 1,200 word essay on a workplace hazard topic, a one-page cover letter outlining their career aspirations in health and safety, and the online application form. The essay counts for 60% of the score and the cover letter 25%.
The award was established in 2002 by the CCOHS Council of Governors in memory of Dick Martin, a pioneer of workplace health and safety in Canada.
