About this scholarship

D.C. residents who meet domicile, citizenship, and income requirements may apply for the DC Tuition Assistance Grant through the Office of the State Superintendent of Education.

DCTAG provides up to $15,000 toward the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at participating public colleges nationwide, and up to $3,750 per academic year at eligible private colleges and HBCUs.

Apply annually through DC OneApp. Some applicants may need to submit domicile verification. DCTAG was created by Congress in 1999 to expand higher education choices for District residents.

  • U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizen status
  • High school diploma or equivalent obtained within the last 15 years
  • Enrollment at least half-time as a degree-seeking student at an eligible institution
  • No prior bachelor's degree
  • Not in default on a federal student loan
  • Satisfactory Academic Progress and income-threshold compliance
  • Application submitted via the DC OneApp portal (dconeapp.dc.gov) with a supporting-documents checklist (residency/income/academic records)
  • Apply annually through DC OneApp.
