UBC Vancouver and Okanagan students elected to serve a term on the UBC Board of Governors are eligible.

Award amounts vary within the endowment established by Brenda and David McLean. The fund recognizes students who contribute significantly to university governance and develop leadership skills through Board service.

Recipients are chosen on recommendation of the Board of Governors. There is no separate application.

David McLean served on the UBC Board of Governors from 1981 to 1987 and was Chair from 1983 to 1985.
