About this scholarship

Native American college and technical students of any age, tribe, and state who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) may apply for the DAR American Indian Scholarship.

Awards are $4,000 each; more than one may be granted annually. Applicants must prove membership in a state- or federally recognized tribe. Awards support vocational training or undergraduate or graduate study, with preference for undergraduates.

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship (birth certificate, naturalization papers, or passport page, with photos covered and SSN redacted)
  • Two to four letters of recommendation, dated within the last year, uploaded directly by the applicant (not from relatives)
  • Proof of tribal membership (required for American Indian scholarships)
  • Applications submitted via DAR's online process Nov 1 - Jan 31
