About this scholarship
Black and/or Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students committed to sustainable agriculture, food justice, and grassroots organizing may apply for the Cynthia Hayes Memorial Scholarship, co-administered by NSAC and SAAFON. Undergraduate applicants must be entering their third or fourth year; graduate applicants must have completed at least four courses with one semester remaining before graduation. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required; PhD students are not eligible.
Two undergraduate awards and one graduate award of $5,000 each are offered annually. Recipients also receive opportunities to connect with leaders in sustainable agriculture and advocacy.
Applicants complete an online application focused on sustainable agriculture, Black farmer communities, and food justice in the United States.
The scholarship honors Cynthia Hayes, a pioneering advocate for Black farmers and agricultural equity.
