About this scholarship
A York University Liberal Arts and Professional Studies student registered in a 3000- or 4000-level sociology course may compete for the Christopher Beattie Essay Prize for the best essay in sociology. Eligible essays may come from current courses or be written for the competition; excellence and originality are the main criteria. Two awards; amount varies.
Established in memory of Christopher Beattie, a former department chair and scholar who died in 1977 at age 36.
Essay question
What else to submit
- Submit a sociology essay, either from a current eligible course or written for the competition.
- Must be a York University LA&PS (Liberal Arts & Professional Studies) student
- Must be registered in a Sociology course at the 3000 or 4000 level (third/fourth year)
- Award is given for the best sociology essay submitted from such a course (an existing course essay, not a separate application essay)
- Judging criteria: excellence and originality are the chief criteria
- Deadline: June 15 (contact the Department of Sociology for current details)
