About this scholarship

Open to UBC Vancouver undergraduate or graduate students in Asian Studies who show proficiency in Chinese (roughly one year of intensive study), a concentration in Chinese studies, and academic excellence, along with evidence of social concern and good citizenship. Preference goes to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

The award is a $4,700 scholarship endowed in memory of Chris Lin. Apply by submitting a CV with a brief statement on your intentions and life goals to the Chris Lin Memorial Scholarship Committee in the Department of Asian Studies. Recipients are chosen on the department's recommendation.

Chris Lin was a second-year UBC student who died in 1966. The fund honors his promise to build understanding and friendship between China and Canada. He was the son of Professor Paul Lin of McGill's Centre for East Asian Studies and an alumnus of UBC.
