About this scholarship

LGBTQ+ and ally undergraduate or rising undergraduate students from the Charlotte metro area may apply. Applicants need a 3.0+ unweighted GPA, significant unmet financial need, and demonstrated service to the LGBTQ+ community or a clear desire to serve it. They must be enrolled or intending to enroll at an accredited two- or four-year college. Preference goes to full-time students and to part-time juniors and seniors. Eligible home counties include Mecklenburg, York, Union, Gaston, Cabarrus, Iredell, Rowan, Cleveland, Lancaster, Lincoln, Stanly, Chester, Catawba, Chesterfield, Alexander, and Anson.

Awards are up to $10,000 for tuition, fees, on-campus housing, or books, with levels from $1,000 to $10,000. Preference is given to students attending college in North or South Carolina, though all applicants are considered. Apply once with transcripts, activities or a resume, and a 500-800 word personal statement. Applicants may choose either the scholarship or Charlotte Pride's separate summer internship, not both.

Supported by the Principal Foundation, the program aims to improve economic mobility for LGBTQ+ and ally students from the Charlotte region.
