About this scholarship
African-American or Black high school juniors and seniors who reside in a district represented by a Congressional Black Caucus member and are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents may enter this essay contest.
Three winners each receive a $2,000 scholarship. Winners and their families are invited to Washington, DC in September to accept the award and join a panel discussion during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference.
Write an essay defending your research, analysis, and opinion on the program's assigned topic. Submissions are judged by a committee of CBC Spouses.

- Original essay of 750 to 1,000 words with supporting evidence
- Original composition: no less than 750 words and no more than 1000 words, with evidence that supports the findings (the 750-1000 word range applies to the single essay; applicants address one or more

- Eligibility: reside in a Congressional Black Caucus Member's district
- Eligibility: U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
- Eligibility: identify as Black or African-American
- Judged on overall content, quality, universality, style, grammar, and alignment with contest theme
- Essay must defend the applicant's research, analysis, and opinion on the assigned topic.
