About this scholarship

Open to students entering the Bachelor of Midwifery Program who have demonstrated interest in practicing in underserved communities. Preference goes to First Nations, Inuit, or Métis students or students from underserved communities. Financial need may be considered.

The award amount varies. It is endowed in memory of Carol Hird through gifts from friends, family, and the Midwives Association of British Columbia.

Recipients are chosen on the recommendation of the Midwifery Program. There is no separate application.

Carol Hird immigrated to Canada in 1972 and served as President of the International Confederation of Midwives, advancing professional midwifery recognition in British Columbia.
