About this scholarship

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Persons in eligible thesis-based master's or direct-entry doctoral programs at Canadian institutions may apply for the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's (CGRS M). A first-class average in each of the last two completed years of study is typically required, subject to institutional rules and months-of-study limits.

The award is $27,000 for 12 months and is non-renewable. Submit an application through the Research Portal to up to three institutions by December 1 before 8:00 p.m. ET.

CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC jointly administer the program.
