About this scholarship

California high school seniors at public, private, or charter schools graduating in 2026 who participate in varsity interscholastic athletics and have overcome personal adversity (injury, illness, family hardship, academic pressure, mental health challenges, and similar) may apply for the CalHOPE Courage Award Scholarship.

Twenty-five scholarships of $2,500 are awarded on a rolling monthly basis from September through June. Applying earlier means more monthly selection windows.

The personal adversity story is the primary selection factor, not athletic accomplishments. You do not need to wait until your senior sports season ends.
