About this scholarship

Undergraduate students in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at UBC Vancouver who are participating in a field geology course at the UBC-Teck Geological Field Station may be considered for the C. Fipke Award in Field Studies. Recipients are chosen on academic performance and passion for geological fieldwork during field school.

Awards totalling $5,000 are available through an endowment established by the Charles E. Fipke Foundation.

Awards are made on the recommendation of the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences.

Charles "Chuck" E. Fipke, CM (B.Sc. (Hons.) 1973) is a geologist and prospector whose exploration work led to diamond discoveries near Lac de Gras in Canada's Northwest Territories. He has also supported major research facilities at UBC, including the Charles E. Fipke Integrated Neuroimaging Suite and the Charles Fipke Centre for Innovative Research at UBC Okanagan.
