Bill Stothard Memorial Award in Astronomy

For UBC Vancouver graduate students specializing in Astronomy with outstanding academic and research achievement, with preference for students committed to astronomy outreach or public engagement. If no eligible graduate students are available in a given year, the award may go to a third- or fourth-year B.Sc. student majoring in Astronomy.

Scholarships from an endowment established by the Stothard Family. Amount varies.

Made on the recommendation of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and for graduate students in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. No separate student application.

The award honours Bill Stothard (1898-1967), an avid amateur astronomer who built his own telescopes and whose family established this endowment in his memory.
